Franci Gabrovsek

Franci Gabrovšek (born 1968) is a physicist and karstologist at the Karst Research Institute ZRC SAZU and a Professor of Karstology at the University of Nova Gorica, Slovenia. He earned a degree in physics from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, and obtained his PhD from the University of Bremen, Germany, in 2000 with a thesis on the early evolution of karst aquifers. His research focuses on the physical and chemical processes that shape karst landscapes, both on the surface and underground. He develops numerical models to study cave formation and, in collaboration with colleagues and students, has established a comprehensive monitoring network of hydrological and meteorological parameters in Slovene caves. By applying various quantitative approaches to these data, he explores the fundamental mechanisms that govern the properties of karst environments.
