Lars H. Smedsrud

Lars H. Smedsrud (Norway) is a Polar physical oceanographer with a broad international and interdisciplinary network. His competence is in polar oceans, sea ice and ice sheets, and he aims to understand large-scale processes and use his knowledge to contribute towards solving the present climate challenges. This motivated his studies into people's behavior and choices, and about processes in policy and law. Therefore, he decided to cooperate outside his disciplinary boundaries with scholars from social science and the humanities who share his interest in the Artic and polar regions. He also has an enthusiastic drive for teaching and communicating climate dynamics and successfully ran an Artic sustainability course suggesting solutions on renewable energy on Svalbard over three summers. He has been leading large research projects for more than a decade with robust scientific outputs.
