Prof. Vesselin A. Alexandrov
Prof. Vesselin A. Alexandrov (Bulgaria), PhD, DSc is currently the Director of the Department of Meteorology at the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology. His DSc degree in Physics and Mathematics was granted at the Main Geophysical Observatory, St. Petersburg, Russia in 2007. His PhD diploma was issued by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in 1996. The period from 1998 to 2001 Alexandrov was a postdoc at the University of Georgia, USA and BOKU University in Austria. Since 2010 he is a full professor in Meteorology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
His research topics are related to climate variability and change; climate variability and change impacts on various sectors (e.g. agriculture, forestry, water resources): extreme climate and weather events (e.g. drought, frost, etc.); climatic and agroclimatic resources; weather-generators; statistical and dynamic crop-weather model applications; decision support systems in agriculture.
In 2002 he got a price for studying regional and global climate as well as related impacts (Klimaschutzpreis, Vienna, Austria, 2002).
