Dr Alessandro Allegra

Dr Alessandro Allegra is a science policy practitioner and scholar interested in understanding and shaping the interface between science, policy, and society in Europe, with a focus on scientific advice to policymaking. He has experience in EU, UK, and international science policy at UNESCO, the Royal Society, the Royal Society of Biology, and most recently at the European Commission, where he worked from 2020 to 2025 on expanding the outreach and impact of its Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM), strengthening science for policy capabilities across Europe, and supporting senior management in coordinating R&I policy on energy, climate, environment and health. Alessandro holds a PhD in Science, Technology and Society (STS) from University College London and has been Fulbright-Schuman fellow at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government. He is Honorary Lecturer in the UCL Department of Science Technology Engineering and Public Policy (STEaPP) where he is involved in research on the institutionalization of scientific advice and on the use of AI in science for policy, and in training scientists on how to engage with policy.
