
Paula Kivimaa
Paula Kivimaa is a leading expert in energy transitions and public policy, working as Research Professor in Climate and Societal Transitions at the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE). She is also a member of the Finnish Climate Panel since 2020, and as Associate at Science Policy Research Unit, University of Sussex. She has worked on the energy transition from multiple perspectives, such as energy security, justice, building energy efficiency and transport. Her work centers on how public policy—spanning climate change, energy, security, and innovation—can effectively drive the transition to zero carbon energy systems, with particular emphasis on governance, innovation, and policy experimentation.
She has contributed to circa 70 peer reviewed scientific articles, several book chapters and books, and multiple policy briefs, advising bodies such as the European Commission, the OECD, and Nordic Council of Ministers. Her background includes a PhD in Organisations and Management, an MSc in Environmental Technology and a BSc in Environmental Science & Business Management.
