Partnering for Progress: Strengthening Science and Policy through Multilateral Collaboration for Tomorrow

EASAC, together with the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) and the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), will host a side event at the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM) to the European Commission Conference 2025. This event will explore the expanding role of collaborative frameworks in shaping evidence-based policies, with contributions from esteemed experts in government and leading research institutions.

Title: Collaboration in science and research without borders: Austria’s approach to international cooperation, mobility, and networking

Theme: From evidence to action: The role of science networks in shaping policy futures

    Focus: Country level perspective on showcasing Austria and the Academy’s experience and leadership in building impactful multilateral partnerships.
     
  • Lise Øvreås, EASAC Vice-President
    Focus: European perspective on EASAC’s contributions to science-policy dialogues and international collaborations.
     
  • Karen Lips, IIASA Deputy Director General
    Focus: Global perspective on IIASA’s role as an independent platform for fostering knowledge exchange and impactful research.

Success stories and networking session
Following the discussion, this interactive segment will bring together 15 experts from the OeAW, EASAC, and IIASA to discuss real-world case studies of successful multilateral partnerships that have influenced policy and society. It will combine a reception and informal discussions, offering a platform for meaningful dialogue on lessons learned, best practices, and future opportunities in international scientific collaboration.
