(It) called for greater efforts to stop the planet from heating and better landscape planning to manage land.”

Published in May 2025 and elaborated by 23 scientists nominated by their respective national science academies, the EASAC report “Changing Wildfires: Policy Options for a Fire-literate and Fire-adapted Europe” highlighted the complex drivers behind the surge in wildfire risk, including climate change, rural depopulation and land-use changes.
