EASAC webinar on Communicating Science in the COVID-19 Pandemic
More than 60 fellows and staff of EASAC’s member Academies took part in a webinar on 18 November to reflect on the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic for science communication. To prepare the meeting, many had taken part in a survey on the communication activities of the Academies during the crisis. During the webinar, several communications practitioners shared their learnings from recent months, in particular on issues such as countering pseudoscience, communicating science in a time of rapid development of scientific understanding, and handling situations of conflicting scientific positions in the public domain. These and other topics were discussed in five breakout groups and in the plenary.
